Seasonal greetings to you all. If anyone would like to read further juicy details about my mis-spent youth with the likes of George Michael, Boy George et al, may I direct you to the just-published unauthorised biography 'Careless Whispers: The Life and Career of George Michael' by Robert Steele (published by Omnibus, hardback, £19.95). I am quoted extensively, as is the inimitable Simon Napier-Bell, George's infamous former manager, classic songwriter and purveyor of the witty quote who has been at the epicentre of anything pop for the last 50 years.

I think the book gives a truthful and illuminating glimpse on the 80s life and nightlife of the movers, groovers and shakers from that period who went on to have considerable impact on British culture. It's also well written by an author whose background is in crime fiction so he's adept at researching where fainter hearts may fear to tread. Some may say George Michael's whole career was a crime perpetrated by a fat Greek with a bouffant mullet but I couldn't possibly comment. Only joking. George is up there with the much feted few who can write the perfect pop song, no mean feat as the many thousands who have tried and failed can attest.

We all know the best biogs are the unauthorised ones because they spill all the beans and poke around in closets the subject often wants to keep firmly shut, so, if you fancy a bit of dish with your turkey this Christmas, get thee to your nearest bookshop.
